I work extensively as a director, predominantly of new work. Have a look at some images below.
The above image (by Robin Zahler) is from Aliki Chapple's 666 Comments (2018, design by Hannah Sibai, lighting by Katharine Williams). (Aliki is the one on the left.) The show is touring in 2021 and 2022.
In May 2021 Sleeping Beauty, which I co-wrote and co-directed with Sarah Punshon, played at the Dukes in Lancaster, a family Christmas show displaced by Covid. My version of Beauty and the Beast, again co-directed with Sarah Punshon, is the Dukes' 2021 family Christmas show.
Other recent directing work includes Holly Gallagher's Tensile Strength (or how to survive at your wit's end), The Astonishing Vacuum Cleaner Adventure (Dukes Theatre/One Tenth Human), How Does This Politics Thing Work Then? (Comedy Club 4 Kidz/Simple Politics) and I Was Naked, Smelling of Rain (Aidan Moesby). The accessible film version of the latter show was nominated for the Jarman Award. That show also has tour dates through to 2022.
Earlier directing includes work for Red Ladder Theatre, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Royal and Derngate and Silver Tongue Theatre. I have also directed extensively in HE and drama school settings.
My approach is light, playful and open and I aim to enable the whole team to be their best selves. I have strong instincts and I want to strengthen everyone else's instincts too. I try to help release the material's playfulness, and let it burn as bright and hot as it can.
